December 2025

December 2025

iHola amigos! Or, hello friends! December in Guatemala has been interesting for us! There seems to be a holiday for something every few days in the month of December, many of them are Catholic holidays. Every holiday tends to be celebrated with music or parades, fireworks, and half the time costumes. That creates different experiences and challenges when navigating the cities, be it by car, foot, Uber, tuk-tuk, or bus. On Christmas Eve, everyone and their neighbor shoots off fireworks at midnight from their houses. We had an awesome view of them from the courtyard of our school. They shoot off more fireworks on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve in Guatemala, than the whole U.S. does on the 4th of July. We started practicing Spanish at a language school over the Christmas break, and are already seeing happy results.

Christmas Related News:

We were blessed to watch some of our students perform in a Christmas play in Spanish at our church. We had some ponche de frutas for the first time, which is a hot dried fruit drink. The church had tacos and ponche after the play. We had Christmas Eve dinner with a Guatemalan family we have become close to, which was tamales. Christmas morning we did the usual gift time just with us three. Kaylee was very excited for the gifts bought with money from family members. Then for Christmas we had an American Christmas dinner with one of the families from the school and Kaylee had a lot of fun playing with them.

Prayer Requests:

-Pray: Quarter 3 begins in 2 weeks. Pray that the transition back goes well for the students, and that we both do a great job teaching our various classes.

-Praise: Kaylee was able to play with many visiting children this month, since the campus opened up as a guest house during the break. This helped with her missing friends less strongly than the first week of the break.

-Pray: We are going to take over being the hosts for the guest houses on the weekends of quarter 3. Caitlin will be in charge of feeding the masses, and Bradley will be letting people in and checking them out. Pray that this new transition of duties also goes smoothly.
